DANCES FROM THE SOUTH OF ITALY AND CIRCLE DANCES
The Dublin Food Coop is the home of a special fusion between Italian Dances From the South of Italy and Circle Dances.
With Christine Warner, who is teaching the meaning and spirituality of the circle shape in dance, we are travelling around the world experiencing through dance the symbols and philosophies of many different countries.
In this way Infinitwirl is achieving one of its dearest aims: MULTICULTURAL EXCHANGE.
The circle is also the main basic structure of the Italian dances Pizzica and Tammurriata.
At this particular venue, the Dublin Food Coop (an ethically responsible community), we are presenting these dances focusing on some of their important aspects.
Through the fast and energetic rhythm of the Pizzica Dance (originally from the Lecce area) and the slow and earthy steps of the Tammurriata Dance (originally from Naples) we will experience the ties that link body, soul, music and earth.
Both of these dances and their steps involve a body language that expresses the strong human connection with Nature and the Earth.

TAMMURRIATA AND TANGO
Simona Zaino is a Tango teacher who suggests a particular idea: a connection between Tango and Tammurriata.
Our dance community was invited to dance in a Tango Milonga where we had a presentation of Tammurriata dance and a Tammurriata workshop with a Tango performance, in two different venues in Dublin.
This event was a homage to the Italian contribution to Argentinian Tango
There was a large migration from the North and South of Italy to Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th century.
After many hours work during the day, Italian people would meet on the street in the evening to dance all night long.
This aspect of Italian culture was a major contribution to the development of Tango
The Italian attitude towards art and music is still making an important impact in Tango music.
Tammurriata is an ancient traditional dance from the Naples area, particularly around the huge Volcano of Vesuvius.
Body expression through gestures is part of these dances where dancers show their talent using basic steps and figures to create their own improvisation with their partner.
